Access

  • Click the search bar in the header

  • Press / as a keyboard shortcut

  • Type your query

Search Scope

Global search finds content across:

  • All accessible repositories

  • Constructs, parts, notebooks, files

  • Names, descriptions, and metadata

Search Results

Results display with:

  • Item name

  • Type icon

  • Repository location

  • Last modified date

Navigate results:

  • Use arrow keys to move through results

  • Press Enter to open selected item

  • Click any result to open

Within a Repository

  1. Open a repository

  2. Use the search bar in the repository view

  3. Results filter to that repository only

Search Scope Toggle

Switch between:

  • This folder: Current folder only

  • This repository: Entire repository

Filtering

By Type

Filter to specific content types:

  • Constructs

  • Parts

  • Notebooks

  • Files

  • Molecules

  • Templates

By Attributes

Filter using dropdowns:

  • Entity types: Content categories

  • Created by: Specific users

  • Repositories: Limit to certain repos

  • Part types: Promoter, CDS, etc.

  • Part subtypes: Further classification

  • Molecule: Associated molecules

Combined Filters

Apply multiple filters:

  1. Set first filter

  2. Add additional filters

  3. Results match all criteria

Click Show more for additional filter options.

Search Tips

Exact Phrases

Search for exact phrases:

  • Enter the full phrase

  • Results match complete strings

Partial Matching

Search matches partial names:

  • "GFP" finds "GFP", "eGFP", "mCherry-GFP"

  • Useful for finding variants

Find constructs containing specific sequences:

  • Enter a short sequence

  • Use the BLAST tool for longer sequences

For sequence similarity searches:

  1. Go to Tools > BLAST

  2. Enter your query sequence

  3. Select search parameters

  4. View matching constructs and parts

Recent Searches

Recent searches appear when you click the search bar, making it easy to repeat common queries.

  3. Return to the same filtered view

Search Within Constructs

Find sequences within an open construct:

  1. Open the construct editor

  2. Click Search in the right sidebar

  3. Enter a sequence or text

  4. Navigate between matches
